01
Primitivo is climbing at the independents

The independents sold 155 bottles of Primitivo and Zinfandel this week, up from 86 the week before. The big sellers are moving it too: Pillastro Primitivo Puglia 2025 at £13.49 sold over 6,000 bottles at the biggest online seller.

02
New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc jumped at the biggest online seller

It sold over 32,000 bottles, up from over 22,000 the week before, mostly at £10–15. At the independents, Stoneburn Sauvignon Blanc at £15.00 sold 100 bottles, while other Sauvignon Blanc fell from 508 to 305.

03
Crémant and Cava are growing at the supermarket

A national supermarket's wine shop sold over 1,700 bottles of Crémant, Cava and English sparkling, up from over 1,400, nearly all at £10–20. Prince Alexandre Crémant de Loire at £15.50 was its best seller with 817 bottles.

04
Portuguese reds are selling hard online

The biggest online seller's Castelão-based blends more than doubled, from over 6,600 to over 14,000 bottles, led by Lobo e Falcão 2025 at £13.99. Vinha do Fava Touriga Nacional 2024 at £14.99 and Aluado Alicante Bouschet 2024 at £13.49 also sold over 6,000 bottles each.

If you run a wine shop

What to do with it

  1. Put a Primitivo at £10–15 at the front of the wine shop this week, where people already reaching for a red will see it.
  2. Keep a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc in the fridge at £10–15, priced near £14.99, so customers can pick up a cold bottle.
  3. Stand a Crémant at £15–20 next to the Champagne so customers see a sparkling wine for well under half the price.
  4. Open a Portuguese red at £10–15 for a Saturday tasting and stack it by the counter.

How we count

Many wine sellers show how many bottles they have left. We read those public numbers several times a day and add up every fall between two reads. Rises are restocks and are ignored. A single fall that is too big to be shoppers (a stock move, a trade order or a site reset) is left out: 16 this time.

The biggest online seller updates its stock overnight, and much of what leaves goes out in mixed cases to its club members. The supermarket wine shop is read twice a day. The 19 independents are shops across the UK whose sites show stock counts. Styles come from each seller's own grape and colour labels. Prices are each seller's shelf price.

We read only public pages, follow each site's robots.txt and never log in. Sellers are not named. Ziild is not affiliated with any of them.
