Food and drink marketing news: week to 1 November 2026

Three things moved this week. Two of them matter less to UK brands than the headlines suggest. One matters more than it looks.

By Pasi Sipilä, founder of Ziild · 2 November 2026

In short

Meta's new Pixel setting from 12 November reportedly does not apply to shoppers in the UK and EU, so check it only if you sell outside them.

A scan found 2 of 3,379 AI-flagged Meta ad files disclosed AI use, and the 28 October ASA batch had no formal rulings on food or drink for people.

1. Meta Pixel counts more conversions from 12 November, but not for UK shoppers

Meta is adding a Pixel setting called "Measure conversions on customer devices". It matches some ad views to purchases on the shopper's own device.

Meta says it uses information the customer has already given the business, such as an email address, plus "temporary, non-identifying device data". It is on by default for datasets already sending Pixel and Conversions API events. No code changes are needed, and Meta says the attribution window and model stay the same.

The date comes from the Events Manager panel: "Measurement starting November 12, 2026". That is 15 days before Black Friday on 27 November.

The UK point is the one that matters. Meta's Business Help Center reportedly says the feature "is not active for people located in the EU and UK". It depends on where the shopper is, not where you are.

So do not expect your UK-audience figures to jump. If you sell direct to customers in the US or elsewhere outside the UK and EU, you may see more conversions reported in those markets. We could only confirm this second-hand, so check your own Events Manager.

2. Almost no AI ads on Meta say they are AI

Resemble AI, a synthetic-media detection company, published its 2026 Synthetic Advertising Report on 22 October. It looked at 37,768 image and video files from 15,433 Facebook and Instagram ads, run by 509 companies across 26 industries, taken from Meta's public Ad Library in September 2026.

3,379 files (8.9%) were flagged as AI-generated or manipulated. Only 2 (0.06%) mentioned AI anywhere in the ad copy. None of the 971 files checked carried C2PA provenance data.

Of 3,216 files labelled as fakes, 70% were photorealistic and 46% showed a person. Brands used AI to make selfie-style testimonials that look like real customer footage. No food brand was named in the material we saw.

What the AI scan means for a UK food or drink brand

Meta requires self-disclosure, with penalties, only for political, electoral and social-issue ads. Other ads get an automatic "AI info" label under "About this ad", which Meta says has not yet reached every AI-made ad. This is a summary, not legal advice.

The report says the UK has no AI-specific disclosure law and misleading-advertising rules apply. The report itself marks that row "verify", so treat it as unconfirmed.

The plain point: a fake customer video is a fake customer. If your agency makes AI testimonials, ask who the person is and whether they exist.

3. ASA, 28 October: a quiet week for food and drink

The ASA published two formal rulings, both upheld. Attraction Tickets Ltd, for a misleading price-match claim in a paid Google ad. Optival Ltd, for an irresponsibly targeted paid search ad for a betting site.

There were no formal rulings involving food or drink for people. Pet food brand Pooch and Mutt appeared in the list of informally resolved cases, with one complaint. We could not check what it was about.

Do not read a quiet week as a quiet regulator. A third-party tracker by Whito counted 72 formal rulings from 29 July to 14 October, nine of them on paid online ads for less healthy food, including influencer posts.

What to do on Monday

Most of this is housekeeping. It takes an hour.

If you want the house rules enforced on every draft, Ziild CMO does that by default: product-first alcohol copy and verified ratings only.

Questions people ask

Will Meta's 12 November Pixel change raise my UK conversion figures?

Reportedly not. Meta's Business Help Center is reported to say the feature is not active for people located in the EU and UK. It may affect conversions reported from shoppers elsewhere.

How do I turn off Meta's on-device conversion measurement?

In Events Manager, go to Data sources, select the pixel, open Settings and turn off "Measure conversions on customer devices". It is set per pixel.

Do I have to label AI-generated ads on Meta?

Meta requires self-disclosure only for political, electoral and social-issue ads. Other ads may get an automatic "AI info" label. UK misleading-advertising rules still apply to what the ad shows. This is a summary, not legal advice.

Were there any ASA food or drink rulings on 28 October 2026?

No formal rulings involved food or drink for people. A pet food brand, Pooch and Mutt, was among the informally resolved cases.
